Jay Margolis, 76, died Sunday at St. Joseph’s hospital. Born on July 17, 1950 to Henry and Shirley Margolis he was a life resident of Syracuse.
He was a graduate of Nottingham High School class of 1968, and attended Onondaga Community College. He enlisted in the US Air Force, and then spent the next 25 years with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s department. He was honored to have received the Sheriff’s Medal of Honor~ one of the highest honors to be awarded.
After retiring from the Sheriff’s department he joined The Home Depot in the millwork department and was associated with the Dewitt store for 25 years.
Jay loved playing blackjack at the Turningstone Casino, and golfing. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and followed SU sports.
His family includes his wife Natalie of 43 years; daughters Joy Margolis, Rebecca (John) Sellmeyer, and Toni Barnes; grandchildren Rhiannon, Boz, EJ, and Rachel; and his brother Elliot.
Funeral services will be at 11AM on Thursday September 10 at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 10-11 on Thursday at the funeral chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street.
Rather than flowers the family would appreciate contributions to perpetuate his memory be made to the American Cancer Society.
