Murray passed in 2009, and Adele in 2020, and now Stewie will rest peacefully beside them here in Temple Concord’s section of Woodlawn Cemetery.
His older brother Gary shared that Stew was a Harvard grad and one of the sweetest people on earth. He was possessed with one of the most brilliant minds ever. He frequently would stand up in a theater in Cambridge and recite whole scenes from Shakespeare, every voice, and accent, unprompted until the film began. So gifted.
After university he was studying in Jerusalem when a series of tragedies befell him. Thanks to their late father, Stewie had been living in a state disability pension and enjoyed a very simple and secluded life.
A friend recalled many happy memories of Stevie as everyone called him. Attending midnight movies at SUs Gifford Auditorium and entertaining the audience before the film began One particular night stands out when Stew delivered Marc Anthony’s eulogy for Caesar from the theaters stage. He had passion and intelligence galore.
Graveside services and burial were Thursday morning in the Temple Concord section 30 of Woodlawn Cemetery. The service may be seen on the Sisskind Funeral Service Facebook page.

Dear Lucas Family, I was deeply saddened to hear of Stewart’s passing, and I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to you during this difficult time. I had the privilege of knowing him for the past ten years, and he was truly a remarkable person who left a lasting impact on everyone in our building. One of the things I will always cherish is the way he took the time to handwrite and personally deliver Jewish holiday cards—not just to me but to all our neighbors. It was a beautiful reflection of his kindness, warmth, and generosity. His greetings of “Shalom” always felt like a true blessing, and his presence brought a sense of community and connection that will be deeply missed. He had such a love for the outdoors and for staying active, and I know how much he enjoyed his daily visits to the Jamesville-Dewitt Library. His thoughtful gestures and unwavering kindness made our building feel more like a home. His absence is felt by all of us who had the honor of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing. I wish you comfort and strength in this time of loss. With deepest sympathy, Randy Hinkle

Stewie was a close friend at Nottingham High School. I remember his keen sense of humor, and our group of friends spent many joyful times together. Thoughts of peace to Stewie’s family. Richard (Dickie) Hicks
