Barbara Schell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age
of 96 on August 10, 2024. Born on March 21, 1928, Barbara led a life filled with love, adventure, and creativity.
Barbara was the cherished mother of four children: Steve, Andrew, Dan, and Lisa. Her love for her family was unparalleled. She found immense joy in spending time with her children, whether it was during cherished trips to Cape Cod, entertaining family and friends at her pool, or simply enjoying the comfort of her beloved home.
A woman of many passions, Barbara had a deep love for dogs, who were her constant companions throughout her life. She also possessed a green thumb as evidenced by her beautiful gardens where she spent countless hours nurturing her flowers, herbs, vegetables and shrubs, thus creating a serene sanctuary.
Barbara was also a talented artist, expressing her creativity through various mediums. As a graduate from Syracuse University with a degree in Fine Arts, she had a keen appreciation for the arts. She was a devoted supporter of her local Garden Club, the Syracuse Symphony and the Everson Museum. Beyond gardening, her artistic spirit further extended to her love for the
outdoors where she found joy in playing tennis, skiing, swimming, and especially in her later years, basking in the sunshine.
Her adventurous spirit took her on memorable travels, including a remarkable journey to Africa, Peru, Indonesia and the mid-western areas of the US, all leaving lasting impressions on her. However, among all of the places she visited, Camp Chateaugay, where she spent many summers, held a special place in her heart, filled with fond memories and lifelong friendships.
Barbara's warmth, kindness, and zest for life touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will live on through her children, her grandchildren, her beautiful gardens, and the many lives she touched along the way.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
A private family service will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Central New York, Camp Chateaugay or the SPCA in her memory
