Timothy Emmons, a devoted husband, father, and pillar of our community, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the age of 64. Known for his boundless energy, unwavering dedication, and profound generosity, Tim’s life was a testament to his commitment to both his family and his profession.

Tim is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Susan, his sons Andrew (Rachel) and Eric, his brothers and sisters Theodore Jr. (Tammy), Terry (Chris), Todd (Cathy), Tammy, and many more cherished family and friends. Tim is pre-deceased by his parents Theodore and Armeline and his brother Trevor.

Timothy devoted over 30 years to law enforcement, beginning his career in Corrections at Jamesville Penitentiary before transitioning to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department. His tenure there saw him working in the transport unit and becoming a respected member of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT). His passion for learning and helping others led him to acquire an impressive array of skills and certifications, earning him numerous commendations, including the Will Currie Medal of Distinction in 2008. As a field training officer, Tim imparted his extensive knowledge to new recruits, embodying the values he held dear.

Tim’s love for driving and helping others extended beyond his law enforcement career. Known affectionately as the “human GPS,” Tim relished the joy of navigating the roads. His driving skills were put to good use in his roles at American Limousine in Syracuse and as a bus driver for the Central Square School District, where he made a lasting impact on the lives of countless people. Whether he was taking students to and from school, driving them to proms, or assisting on wedding days, Tim’s presence was both comforting and memorable.

Ten years ago, Tim’s dedication to service led him to establish Interlock of Upstate NY. Here, he worked tirelessly with law enforcement agencies and attorneys across Upstate New York, helping individuals regain their footing by installing and monitoring breathalyzer devices in their vehicles. Tim’s work through this business was a continuation of his lifelong mission to help others.

Despite his demanding career, Tim always made time for his family. His sons were the center of his universe, and he was a constant presence at all of their events. Even spending years coaching them in baseball and basketball. One of his cherished memories was coaching both his sons on the same baseball team—a testament to his love and involvement in their lives. Tim’s enthusiasm extended to teaching them practical skills, enjoying family activities like kayaking and hiking, and keeping family traditions alive, including the annual Christmas tree cutting.

One of Tim’s most treasured experiences was a recent Alaskan cruise with his family, fulfilling a long-held dream that him and his wife had and creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Tim’s selflessness and kindness were evident in every aspect of his life. He was a protector, a mentor, and a friend, creating bonds that will endure long after his passing.

In keeping with Tim’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Instead, his life will be celebrated at the Greenview Country Club in West Monroe, NY, on Sunday, August 25th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. In honor of Tim, donations can be made to the Syracuse S.P.C.A and the Rescue Mission of Syracuse.

Timothy Emmons leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Special thank you to the following people for their help and support of Tim during this time:
Dr. Samuel Cytryn and staff at Sloan Kettering
Crouse Hospital Fourth Floor South Staff
Steven Sisskind of Sisskind Funeral Services

Very sorry to of Tim's passing, he was such a great guy. When I worked in Booking, Tim was our "go to" guy when we had a question about an inmate at Jamesville. He was so knowledgeable and professional. After reading his obituary, I see he was very important to people in every facet of his life. What a wonderful legacy.

Tim made our jobs at the Jefferson County Probation Department DWI/IID unit so much easier every day he was with us. We always knew that if any IID issues arose, Tim was going to be there and figure things out! He was always in a good mood and will be sorely missed for not only his amazing work ethic, but also his sense of humor! Tim, we salute you! RIP
