I'm so very sad to hear of Alan's passing. He was a dear and supportive friend to me and an inspiration as a scholar and educator. I am so grateful that I was able to see him just a few weeks ago. I will miss him very much but his memory will stay with me and inform my work. I've made a contribution to the Spector Warren Fellowship in his memory. Dear Alan. I am so lucky to have known him.

When I joined the Syracuse faculty in 2006, Alan was one of the first people to welcome me--even though I wasn't even in his department. Through him I got involved in the Warren Fellowship (Holocaust studies) program. It was always a pleasure to work with him. I saw Alan Speak at the Epstein School siyyum two years ago. I hadn't seen him in a while at that point, but he was as articulate and passionate as ever. He will be missed.
