Sandra Anne Walker, 74, of Syracuse passed away at home on September 8th. Sandy worked at the Syracuse University Library for over thirty years. As a Serials Cataloger, she provided access to academic journals and rare serials in Special Collections. She worked in multiple language systems and created some of the Library’s original transliteration guides. Sandy was a leader in the Service Employees Union at SU, where she served as a steward, unit officer, and on several contract negotiating teams. Sandy was also a founding member of the Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus. She collected teapots, art pottery and rocking chairs. Although disabilities imposed challenges on her over time, Sandy was passionate about cooking and cats, and loved being in the Adirondacks. Sandy will be remembered fondly by her spouse Barrie Gewanter, close friends Deborah Hardy and Ann Phillips, and by chosen relatives Gabrielle Gosselin and Rebecca Field. Private burial will be in Saratoga Springs. To honor Sandy’s memory, please make a donation to a cat charity.
