Robert A. Burrows passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023, following a long illness. Born in Syracuse, NY on November 21, 1942, Bob was loved by many but most of all by his wife of 58 years, Anita. He was raised in Syracuse, graduated from Nottingham High School, and earned a BA in Economics from Syracuse University. Bob proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. He returned to his hometown to join his parents in the family’s clothing boutique, The Irene Shop. Later, at age 45, he began a new career in financial planning. He earned advanced degrees in the field, and was associated with Equitable for more than 30 years, where he relished his role helping families and businesses.

In his younger days, Bob joyfully spent much time on the golf course, where he excelled. It was as a golf counselor at a summer camp that he first met Anita. Back at SU, where she was also a student, Bob pursued her, and with some adept persuasion was able to make what would be his greatest sale.

Always ready with a joke, a smile, or a kind word, Bob lived with honor, integrity, wit and humility.

He is survived by his Anita (Jamesville, NY); sons Craig Burrows (Jen Burrows) of Mammoth Lakes, CA and Andrew Burrows (Rachel Damian) of Las Vegas, NV, as well as four grandchildren Trever, Conner, Jacob and Parker, who lovingly dubbed him “GranBob”. Bob is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews, to whom he was Uncle Bobby. Many special times were shared with his sister- and brother-in-law Tama and John Greenberg. He was predeceased by his parents Irene and Arthur Burrows, his brother Lawrence Burrows, and his sister-in-law Barbara Burrows.

Funeral services will be at 11:00AM, Tuesday, September 5th at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service on Tuesday from 10-11 at the Funeral Chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. Burial will be in Temple Concord section 30 of Woodlawn Cemetery.

Contributions to perpetuate Bob’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.

Anita & Family, It is with much sadness I read of Bob’s passing. I was one of Bob’s golfing friends growing up at Lafayette CC and a fellow member of the City Championship golf team at Nottingham. I will always remember Bob’s sense of humor about his golf game. When you asked him his score for 9 holes, he would say “I played great, I was 2 under.” (bogey golf) instead of saying he was 7 over par. When he was asked how hit hit the ball so far he would say “it’s my bulging wrists!” While I haven’t kept up with Bob after my Lafayette and NHS days, I will always remember his smile. Hope you find comfort in knowing that even after 60 years, he is remembered fondly. Ron R.

Anita, Craig, and Andrew, We mourn your father, and with you, as if you are family. Little did we all know 50 years ago when you moved in across the street on Robbins Lane that these would be lifelong relationships; it is in loss that you savor and rely on those years. Your dad’s jokes – and kind heart, warmth, and concern for others – were legendary, and his signatures right up to the end. I remember him only with a twinkle in his eye, and a smile breaking on his lips. How very lucky and blessed you all were to have a man of such kindness and quiet strength as the foundation of your home and model for your future selves. Craig and Andrew, I see that all of his best qualities are living on through you… so perhaps with a few less puns. May his memory be a blessing. With great love, the Vander-Vrankens,

Bob was a 'gentle giant' In all the years we were friends both at Robbins Lane and now in Boulder Heights I never heard Bob raise his voice or make a disparaging remark about anyone. He was a truly good man in every way . What I remember most about Anita a nd Bob is that they had the kind of marriage everyone aspires to, but very few achieve.. Their devotion to each other was so obvious. Rest in peace, Bob--we'll never forget you.

Anita, we just learned of Bob’s passing. He was a true gentleman and always treated us with dignity respect and compassion. We trusted him and always enjoyed his jokes and quick wit. We miss him and his sage advice. He definitely made our world a better place.
