Martin “Marty” Hafter

Martin “Marty” Hafter died Friday afternoon. Born on September 16, 1932 in Elizabeth, NJ to Jesse and Annabelle Hafter he had been a resident of Syracuse since he and his late wife Lee married in 1959.

After graduating from Central HS he began his career with Hafter Shoe Company of Syracuse. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War.

Marty was a life member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, and the Men’s club of the Temple. Most important to him was his family and friends who were like family. The Hafter home was always warm and welcoming. Everyone lingered at the kitchen table enjoying great food and company.

Lee, Marty’s cherished wife passed away this past January. He was also pre-deceased by his sister Lenore Koster. His family includes his children Nancy (Michael) Gross; Andrew (Mary), and Jeff (Liz); grandchildren Heidi (Lee), Adam (Erin), Liam, Kyle, Sophie, and Genevieve; 4 great grandsons; his brother David (Margaret) Hafter; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be at 10:30AM on Tuesday at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service on Tuesday from 10-10:30AM at the funeral chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. Burial will be in Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to Temple Adath Yeshurun www.sisskindfuneralservice.com

We know he brought you joy, made you laugh and shown you love so he has given you all the lasting gifts of a beautiful life and blessed your memories forever.
