Robert Joel Jenkins

Robert Joel Jenkins, 70, died on Friday evening in the comfort of his home. He was born in Elmira to Robert and Rilla Jenkins. He attended Horseheads schools; Hobart College, and the University of Buffalo Law School.

He was especially proud to have earned the honor of Eagle Scout. He was the President of Delta Chi Fraternity at Hobart, and the managing editor of the Buffalo Law Review. After being admitted to the NYS Bar in 1978, he was a law clerk to the Hon. William R. Roy; then assistant corporation council for the city of Syracuse; family court hearing examiner of Onondaga County; the court attorney- referee of the Matrimonial Part of the Supreme Court for both Oneida and Onondaga Counties; and then retired to his private consulting practice.

Bob was respected by the entire legal community for his knowledge, compassion, dedication, and humor.

His family includes his wife Nancy Smith of 39 years; his brother Brian Jenkins, and his children Rachel (Travis), Madeline, and Celeste; his sister Marybeth (Ed) Gronski; sister-in-law Barbara Nolan, and her children Laura (Joe), Christine (Joe), Tracy (Maurice), and Jenny (George), brother-in-law Stan (Karen) Smith; and his grand nieces and grand nephews Marissa, Joey, Emily, Clara, Margaret, Ben, Francesca, Nicky, and Calvin.

A gathering of family and friends will be in the spring with arrangements to be announced.

I'm very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was an invaluable colleague to the Support Magistrates in NY. His legal knowledge was encyclopedic and he never hesitated to pass along that knowledge to his colleagues. I'll remember him fondly.
