William Joseph "Bill" Rahling

William Joseph “Bill” Rahling passed away on Friday, December 3rd in Syracuse, NY. Bill was born in 1945 and raised in Waukegan, IL, the son of Clarence and Bernice Dugan Rahling.

He attended St Anastasia grade school and Waukegan Township High School, graduating in 1963. Bill was a natural athlete and excelled at a number of sports. After several years of playing football, he focused on his first love: golf. He had been introduced to golf as a youngster by his paternal grandmother who played regularly at the local public golf course, Bonnie Brook.

Bill was a standout on the high school golf team, leading it to an undefeated season in 1963. He was also one of the most popular students in his class.

After high school Bill attended Oklahoma State University where he had been offered and accepted a full scholarship based on his golfing talent. OSU was one of the leading golf schools in the country. He did graduate work at Michigan State University in agronomy. Bill founded Aer—Core, golf course turf management, which combined his knowledge of agronomy with his love of golf. His love of golf lasted a lifetime, including his longtime membership at Aronimink Country Club in Newtown Square.

Not to be outdone by his passion for golf, Bill was also an accomplished nature photographer who enjoyed outings with the Chester County Camera Club. He became a semi-professional photographer and had established Bill Rahling Photography as a post retirement career.

His family includes his loving children, daughter Kathleen, sons Thomas, Michael, and Philip; and his fiancé Deborah Pellow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to perpetuate his memory may be made to the National Audubon Society (Audubon.org), or Camphill Soltain (camphill soltain.org) A celebration of his life is being scheduled with details to follow.
