I just learned of your aunt's death when my Christmas card was returned yesterday. Elaine was my first boss at McCurdy's and the godfather to my son. At 28 I became pregnant by my boyfriend who committed suicide during my pregnancy. Elaine threw me a baby shower and we became close. In later years I married and she was my bridesmaid. We have kept in touch through the years through phone calls and the mail. She kept me posted on all our former coworkers-Murray Bluestone, John Rider, etc. She helped me professionally too-I started as a salesclerk in the boys department under her and later as she mentored me became an assistant buyer and buyer. She was a wonderful friend and as you say a pioneer in retailing and establishing Mc Curdy's import program of clothing. She was very well respected also as one of the first women store managers at Marketpace Mall and later at Northgate. As a young woman she was a great role model and mentor and made many of us feel we could achieve as much as she did. I did not have a college education when I started working at McCurdy's. She told me it didn't matter-work hard and you will get there. And I did-because of her . Her life was defined not only by her professional contributions but her role as a friend and confidant. She will be missed by all of us who loved her. I wiss you peace in accepting this loss.
