Peggy Sterne (nee Margaretha Fischer) died on March 23, 2020 at the age of 96. She is survived by her daughter, Nina Sterne- Cantor (Dr. Richard Cantor), her son Dr. Tom Sterne (Tereta Amilibia Toribio), and her four grandchildren, Gilly (Levi Peckham), Dr. Liza Cantor (John Wesley), Dr. Eric Sterne (Diana Noble), and Gabriel. She was overjoyed to become a great grandmother to Alice Ell Wesley. Her husband Emanuel passed away in 1997. A Holocaust survivor born in Vienna, she marshalled the strength of her character and the memory of her experience to forge a new life for herself and her family. She thrived vicariously through the growth and success of her family. Asking nothing for herself, she gave generously of herself always, and provided unconditional and trusting love to them. She was an eloquent and gifted writer and story teller through the second half of her life, despite English being her second language, and her words spoke of wistful memories of a lost youth, and of her hopes for a more peaceful and just world. Peggy loved to swim, she loved flowers and gardening, reading, playing blackjack at the casino, opera and animals. She was gentle and kind, and quickly beloved by all who came to know her.
