Alberta Abby Eggert

Alberta “Abby” Eggert, 83, died peacefully at her home Sunday morning. Born in Chicago to Samuel and Sophie Klair she had been a resident of Syracuse since 1962.

Prior to starting her family she was an elementary school teacher. As her children became more independent she returned to work on a part-time basis. She taught school; was an executive assistant to the President of Bristol Labs; worked with her husband in his flexible metal hose business; and also catered .

She was a committed member of the Well Spouse Association; and an active member and officer of Congregation Beth Sholom Chevra Shas and the sisterhood of the congregation.

Abby loved reading, attending classes at Oasis, and traveling. She thoroughly enjoyed the arts. Above all, her family and her friends who were like family were most important to her.

She was pre-deceased by her sister Vivienne Fink.

Her family includes her Husband Richard “Dick”, their children Vicki Toran, Andrea (Stan) Speer, and Neil (Sharon) Eggert; and grandchildren Scott Toran, Julie and Rebecca Speer; and Jenna and Lindsay Eggert.

Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday June 5 at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service at the Funeral Chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street, from 11AM to noon on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Beth Sholom section of Oakwood cemetery.

Shiva will be observed at Dick and Abby’s home from 6-8PM on Wednesday and Thursday.
