Lester Siegel

Lester Siegel, 97, of Boynton Beach, Florida, died Monday, April 1st in Florida.
 
Lester Siegel was born February 23, 1922 in Middle Village, New York to the late Carrie and Moe Siegel. He had an older brother, the late Albert Siegel, and a younger brother, the late Jerry Siegel, for whom Lester cared.  
 
He went to Queens College in New York where he got a B.S. in Physics. He was a Captain in the army during WWII and was present at the Nuremburg trials. After WWII, he went to Columbia University where he obtained a Masters degree. He went on to teach Physics & Earth Science at Jamaica High School, where he was a beloved teacher for many years. He also taught physics at York College and Queensborough Community College.
 
After the war, Lester met the love of his life, Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Jacobs, at a dance. They married on December 23, 1947 and raised their twin sons, Fred and Ronald in Bayside, Queens.  Lester and Trudy enjoyed 62 wonderful years together prior to her passing in March 2010.
 
Although missing his beloved bride, Lester enjoyed painting, doing crossword puzzles, and watching sports. Lester was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, punctuality, and jokes.  He skyped regularly with his children, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 
Lester is survived by his children Dr. Fred (Cheryl) Siegel, Dr. Ronald (Joan) Siegel, grandchildren Carolyn (Dr. Andy Weinberg), Traci (Justin Kleinman), Aaron (Nicole) Siegel, Jennifer (Reece Fischer), Jaclyn (Ryan Quinn), Jesse Siegel, and his eight great-grandchildren.  Lester was looking forward to the upcoming birth of his ninth great-grandchild in May.
 
Funeral Services and burial took place on Friday, April 5th in Florida. Shiva will be observed at the home of Ronald & Joan Siegel on Saturday, April 6th from 7:30pm-9pm and Sunday-Wednesday, April 7th-10th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. www.sisskindfuneralservice.com
