Jacob Wandner, 82, died August 18 in Delray Beach, FL. The son of Mollie Tecler Wandner and William Wandner he was born in Syracuse New York, living in Dewitt and Fayetteville until 2008 when he moved to Florida.

Jack graduated from New York Military Academy in Cornwall on Hudson and upon graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1959. Upon completing his military service Jack attended Syracuse University receiving a BS in Business Administration from the School of Management.

Following graduation Jack moved to NYC and entered the buyer training program at Abraham and Strauss, a major Brooklyn department store. Jack and his wife Carol returned to Syracuse and he began his lifelong career as a Manufacturers Representative in the gift and housewares industry. Jack and his reps represented many well known manufacturers and those who knew him well heard him say many times how lucky he was to love what he did so much. He had great customers who became friends for his whole life.

Jack was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Temple Adath Yeshurun, and Congregation Beth Ami in Boca Raton.

Though he spent so much of his life traveling, he loved to take his sons on trips to many places; visiting major military memorials, Gettysburg, Yorktown, Air Force bases, museums in many places because he wanted them to appreciate American history. The family were active members of the Hardwood Club at Syracuse University and whenever he could the family attended basketball and football games. Until his illness prevented him from traveling Jack attended ball games whenever the team played in South Florida. His young grandsons caught grampy's love for SU sports and attended games with him.

Since moving to Delray Beach in 2008 Jack enjoyed meeting with many Syracuse friends and belonged to two active luncheon groups with Syracusans and with several friends from his industry who live or vacation in Florida. He often said he was making up for all the years he was "on the road."

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Carol Richman Wandner and his sons William of Long Beach and Sugar Loaf California and Jason (Tracey Sternberg) of Miami Beach Surfside Florida. He was the very proud "grampy" of Cooper 8 and Jonah 5 who gave him so much joy.

Jack was blessed with a very close extended family and is survived by his Sisters in law Ruth Wandner and Linda Perry, and his nieces and nephews Wendy Allsop, Carol Schott, Marcia Horan, Joel Wandner, Wendy Schwartz, Jay Slotnick, Michelle Shamash and Lisa Perry Sipe and more than 20 great nieces and nephews. Dearest Carol, I just read in the new SU Alumni Magazine, with much sadness, about the demise of your dear Jack. You've been on my to write list for some months ... Truly with very deepest sympathies to you, along with Bill and Jason. If you are still in Delray Beach, will write you there. In several moves, lost track of you: My deepest sympathies to you. Take care, B.A.K.
