Richard L. Fitzgerald, 74, died at home on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Except for several years in Arizona, Richard was a lifelong Syracuse resident. He served in the U.S. Army, worked for his brother Donald at Fitzgerald Roofing Company, then worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was an avid reader, and a coin and stamp collector who also loved motorcycles and antiques. He loved telling family stories and could be counted on to remember things that no one else could. Richard will be remembered for his intelligence, unfailing memory, quick wit and love of his family.
Richard was predeceased by his wife Eleanor, his parents Helen and Lawrence, and his siblings Joseph, Raymond, Leonard, James, Robert, Edward and Patricia. The youngest of twelve children, he is survived by his brothers Donald (Laura Lavine) of Syracuse and Thomas (Tina) of Indiana, his sisters Helen McGlown of Syracuse and Margaret Martz of Florida, step-son Matthew Sindoni, and numerous nephews and nieces including his very special niece Mary Fitzgerald.
Funeral services and burial will be private for the immediate family.
